In case you are transferring ownership of your BlackBerry Curve, or your device is experiencing technical difficulties that cannot be solved, or you just want something to do; it is possible to erase all of the data on your device as well as all of the applications.  To accomplish this just follow these steps (you may want to backup your data before going forward):

Erasing the data with the Wipe Handheld option

Go to Options.

Then go to Security.

Then go to General Security.

Click the trackball and choose Wipe Handheld.

Then choose Continue.

Then type blackberry and all of the data should be erased.

Erasing the data and applications

First connect to Desktop Manager on your comptuer.

Double click the Application Loader icon.

Click Next to go through the Wizard.

When asked for your password type in an incorrect password and click Next.  You will need to do this ten times.

Then choose Close.  The device will become unresponsive in a 507 error without any software.

To re-install software open the Application Loader and choose the software or applications you would like to install.

Clearing device databases

Connect to Desktop Manager on your computer.

Double click on the Backup and Restore icon, then choose Advanced.

Select all of the databases while holding down the Shift key, and then choose Clear.

Then choose OK and all databases will be erased.

Then choose Close.

Wasn’t really clear after getting to the General options screen…you have to click the ‘menu’ key to bring up the ‘wipe handheld’ option. Cheers.

just imported a BB curve 8520 from the US to Kenya. It works well with Safaricom but I cant lift numbers from my Stored list directly to call.It lifts a +1 before the number and so aborts all calls made from the phone book. How do I ensure this +1 (US code) is not lifted every time I call?

I followed your instructions but nothing happened. Do you have to hit something after you enter “blackberry”? I tried this on the Curve and Pearl with no results.
