It’s a bit of a shock, but it is possible that the BlackBerry Storm could go for free here in the U.S. along with a contract of some type after it is released.

In the UK the BlackBerry Storm is in fact available for free with an 18 month contract from Vodafone.  You end up paying about $70 a month for the service, but by getting the Storm for free it becomes an even better buy than its competitor, the iPhone 3G.

An iPhone 3G will cost you about $200, plus the $65 per month for the service.  Times are tough right now, as the economy is no where near its best.  If the Storm comes out for free along with the signing of a contract, there could be a recognizable shift in the mobile phone world as consumers take the world by Storm.

The BlackBerry Storm is the first touch screen device that BlackBerry has come out with, and with newer technology the virtual keyboard actually gives your finger tips the feel of pressing keys, and not just a flat screen.  The Storm looks great, and I would take it over the iPhone 3G even if the prices were comparable.  If the Storm comes out for free in the U.S., it would be a no brainer for me.

What about you?  Would you definitely consider purchasing the BlackBerry Storm if it was free along with a contract?
