BlackBerry Messenger is a way that will allow you to communicate with another BlackBerry user, as long as you yourself have a BlackBerry. It’s just like an instant messenger, but within the BlackBerry community.
How can I use BlackBerry Messenger?
If you have a newer BlackBerry model, you probably already have BlackBerry messenger built into your device. If you do not, it’s simply a matter of downloading it from blackberry.com/messenger.
You will need to know your PIN code in order to use BlackBerry messenger. Every BlackBerry user has a PIN code, and you can find your PIN code by going to Options, then Status, and then PIN.
Technically, BlackBerry Messenger does not cost anything to use, but it does require that you have a data plan with your wireless carrier.
If you would like to add a contact to your BlackBerry Messenger, first open it, then click on the track ball, and then select Add Contact. You will then be able to select a contact from your address book to add to your BlackBerry Messenger by choosing one contact and selecting Request.
Scroll to the top of your list if the person you would like to add is not in your list and choose Use Once. Click on the track ball and you will be able to send a request by PIN or email.
PIN messages may or may not be private depending upon which servers you use. If you use BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), all of your information goes through BES and is probably not private. However, if you are using BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS), conversations are not stored, so they should be much more private than with BES.
If you are getting email service provided by a company, such as the company that you work for, then you might be using BES.
If your email service is provided by your wireless carrier, then your are using BIS.
