Take two very similar devices that are selling today, put them up against each other, and you get BlackBerry Bold vs. iPhone 3G.

How do they match up?

The BlackBerry Bold is very well built, and should last as long as you would like it to, barring any kind of abuse on the light weight device.

The iPhone 3G is also built very well, the inside engineering is great, the glass is precision-laser-cut, and it should be able to stand a bit more abuse than that of the BlackBerry.

How do they look?

The BlackBerry Bold looks very clean and sharp. The face is black, the sides are chrome, and the back is black leather. The layout of the phone is simple and easy to understand.

The iPhone 3G is undoubtedly a world icon as far as mobile phones go these days. The 3G comes in only two colors; black or white. Although the 3G appears small, most of the commonly used features are accessible.

The BlackBerry Bold is larger in size than the 8800, and is the largest in size since the 8700. The Bold may be a little much in one hand for some people, but the keyboard accounts for much of the space, and most likely, two hands will be used for the keyboard.

The iPhone 3G is slimmer, and easier to hold in one hand than the Bold, but obviously doesn’t have the larger keyboard.

The screen of the BlackBerry Bold is excellent. Graphics, content, videos, it all looks great on the Bold thanks to the dense ppi ratio.

The screen of the iPhone 3G is not far behind that of the Bold. Make entire use of the 3.5″ screen while not using the virtual keyboard. Web browsing, email, and videos all look great on the screen of the 3G.

The keyboard of the Bold is excellent. The look, the layout, and the feel of the keyboard is all good.

The keyboard of the iPhone is virtual, which may be nice to some people, but not so nice to others. If you are looking for the real feel of the keyboard then the virtual may not do.

How well do they operate?

Many people love the operating system of the BlackBerry, it does what it’s supposed to do, and users seem to find all of the tricks in which to get all of the usability out of it.

The operating system of the iPhone is said to be the most technologically advanced, out of any other mobile operating system in the world.

As far as general usage goes regarding battery life, the Bold seems to last a littel bit longer than that of the iPhone. You can probably expect to get the same usage out of the Bold battery, as that of any other BlackBerry.

The call quality of each phone seems to be very good, the iPhone might get the slightest edge as sounding a bit more natural than the Bold.

What about email?

On the iPhone reading email may be second to none, however, everything else even related to email is better on the BlackBerry. Using the keyboard on the BlackBerry makes working with email fast and easy. You might say that email on the BlackBerry is almost perfect?

How are these phones for business use?

The BlackBerry can handle anything that you would normally do from Outlook on your Exchange server, and it is a perfect desktop extension. The BlackBerry is said to be the most secure device in the world for business use.

The iPhone needs more testing with its security, the device deployment tools need some work, which leaves the iPhone with more to prove in the business world.

What can I expect to pay?

The BlackBerry Bold is somewhere in the range of $199-$299 with a 2 year contract, and the iPhone is $199 at 8GB and $299 at 16GB, so the pricing seems to be fairly equal between the two.

Which phone is better overall?

Really neither phone is that much better than the other. The Bold is the best BlackBerry up until now, and it is great for business use. The iPhone is a consumer device, and most of the original problems have already been addressed. It all comes down to what you like and what you really want in a phone. Each phone is great in its own right, so the battle really comes down to you, the consumer.

What do you think; BlackBerry Bold, or iPhone 3G?

Are you kidding me, the apple care is bad? Apple care is like the best protection plan out there, you wont find a better one, especially with blackberry.

Applecare sucks. I have been an Apple devotee for the last 10 years and have seen their quality quickly depreciate in the last 3 years. Applecare costs just as much as any other warantee-extension service: no better, no less.

    Chris Reply:

I agree with Jon here, I love going to the apple store and just dropping off my apple product and they do the rest. Very easy and they deffinitly are not depreciating at all, since they have not changed there apple care plan for the past 3 years.

    Chris Reply:

I agree Applecare is terrible. I don’t have an Apple store anywhere nearby me so I have to call if I have a problem. Well guess what. I only have 3 months of free phone calls but a 1 year warranty on the phone. How is that right. I will be getting rid of my iPhone as soon as I can. I love the phone. Just not the warranty plan or anything like that.

It’s not just Apple Care that has no idea what you are talking about when you call them. The phone itself is not designed for business use. Virtual keyboard is the worst possible way of typing emails, even Windows mobile stylus is better than that. The battery can’t be replaced. From security perspective, you can’t control iPhones in your organization. Blackberry is superior in that area, but even with basic Windows Mobile settings, you have some options such as device encryption (3rd part software) or remote wipe off in case device is stolen. No wonder more and more organizations ban iPhone for corporate use.

Iphone is not designed for business use. iphone is for the younger smart phone users. And about your OS, RIM just keeps improving on the same one they used when the blackberry was pretty much just a pager.

Be careful when you switch to BB Bold, there is problems with the track wheel, if any mositure at all gets on the track wheel (even persperation from hands) when the wheel rolls it gets inside and there goes your warranty. It has just happened to me and a second person I know. After contacting RIM directly they did not want to know me, would not even acknowledge my concerns, the only thing they could say was go back to your service provider.
Service provider (Arrow Voice and Data in Australia) did not want to know either. All they could say was water damage voids the warranty it is uneconomical to repair. In my view it is a design fault, if a phone cannot withstand hand persperation there is a real problem.

    kristi Reply:

BB & Tmobile as your carrier is superior….Ive had trouble with the track ball on the curve however i carry insurance and im always covered, if u had a ip and it got wet the damage would be you responsibility as well. the sticker inside the back cover would mean water damage…it only turns red if it is really wet…i live in houston with humity and persperation and my phone has never shown water damage…. try a protective case.

Blackberry BOLD by a mile! And, when you get one, get the insurance. That protects you against damage or losing it! I have had the BOLD since the minute it was on the shelves and it is outstanding. I don’t have to send the whole phone in when the battery goes bad, like the iphone user has to! Also, the keyboard is second to NONE on BOLD! try typing an email or text with the same quickness or accuracy on an iphone…NOT! The looks are so similar in essence, go for the better service/options, etc. And for business use…BOLD!

Ever since I got my iphone 3g I have been missing my bb curve 8310 but I don’t miss the slow processor that my curve had. One more benefit of the black berry is that there insurable the iPhone is not so that’s one good reason to get the blackberry bold, I for one was not told that the iPhone return policy was only 14 days and not 30 like most att phones are. So now I’m stuck with my iPhone 3g. And once you get the hang of the virtual keyboard typing is not that hard

This is silly. The iPhone wins in a head to head competition with the blackberry hands down. In fact, I’m amazed at the comments above. Everyone in my company who switched from the blackberry to the iPhone raves about how much better the iPhone is. I had a blackberry for 4 years, but I switched to the iPhone 6 months ago. The iPhone is incredibly easy to use. Try pulling up and reading an attachment on the blackberry. Try zooming in on a map of a location your looking for on your blackberry. Try booking tickets for a flight, a movie or some event over the internet on your blackberry. Try using the GPS function on a blackberry to find out where you’re going. (The BB GPS costs extra and doesn’t work 50% of the time.) Try getting a new application that’s perfect for your business or your personal interests on your blackberry. There is no comparison. Apple has a world of independent developers creating new applications every day. The blackberry is easier to type on than the iPhone; that is it’s only advantage. Everything else on the iPhone blows the blackberry away. I liked my blackberry, but I love my iPhone.

If you haven’t seen the differences, just try the iPhone for a few weeks and check out the applications. You’ll soon be hooked.

I have never owned an iPhone, so I won’t dispute the phones abilities. It seems like a good device. I have seen the functions from other owners. Thing is, based on what you posted, I don’t think learned anything about the BB in 4 years. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you just had a bad plan or an old phone. GPS is totally free for me, and very reliable and easy to use. I have no problem with attachments at all. I can book tickets too. The browser works like the browser on my desktop. Apps are overwhelmingly abundant. I use google maps and zoom to my heart’s content. Honestly, what are you talking about? None of the things you post are true for me. I have had my BB for a short time and it is easy enough to learn all these abilities in that time. Are you one of those fan boys I hear about?

    [Reply]

    ray Reply:

No one here knows what they are talking about. Obviously both phones are great, but most of you people are not even speaking from experience so don’t say anything. I have a blackberry and had an iphone in the past and would say that the iPhone is much easier to use everything is just there, you just click on what you want you dont need to look for a small application, the iphone is pretty much straight forward and easier to use. and you said there is no turn by turn gps in the iphone? check again; its easier to use than the blackberry and everything you need in an email is there; so set yourself a date and go to the apple store to play with the iphone. people shouldn’t talk about what they don’t know anything about.

You know i’m kind of Pissed that i read comments like these. Due to these people who clearly are payed by RIM (or at least should be) I went out and bought a BB to replace my iphone. I’m really not sure what to think, except that people must be crazy to say that the Bold is a better phone than the iphone. The iphone is miles ahead of the bold in almost every area. Ok the bold has a good keyboard, the iphone’s virtual keyboard works fine for medium length emails and notes.(who’s writing a book on their pda)?? If you carry a laptop around for internet browsing the iphone will replace it. These two phones are NOT comparable. The bold is for stubborn people who can’t accept change. They’ve been using their crackberry for years and need to have thier QWERTY. Just like your mom or grandma who refuses to give up their vcr for a TiVo.
P.S. you can find my new BB for sale on Craigslist in the Albany area in New York. It’ll be cheap even though i payed $500 for it what a joke.

I have a windows phone and BB Bold fo my business. I think that when it comes to touchscreen th i phone is second to none. However, when it comes to business operations BB is alone. The email arrives to you in realtime without the user to be required to be 24/7 connected in a 3g network. So if your email contains sensitive info and means money to you, then BB ONLY. The BB Internet service and server cannot be substituted by anything. The iphone and windows phones are good for the girlfriends to play with the apps. In other words the BB is just a Business phone while all the rest are just consumer hi-end products.

My wife had the first generation iphone and it succumbed to a simple drop from waist level to the ground. She upgraded to the 3G and is working fine. Just waiting for the battery to wear off. She wanted me to get another iphone for myself but after doing a lot of reading and research I got the BB. The first thing I did with it is take a flash pic of her in the dark. (iphone doesn’t have a flash). I then tried to send her the pic via MMS.(iphone doesn’t have MMS). Then I took a short video clip of her. (iphone doesn’t have a video camera). I purchased a memory card which fits in to a flash card and I can tranfer pics and MP3 files directly from my computer without going through itunes and the aggravating synch process. Case closed!

I am really trying to get solid information about the Blackberry vs the Iphone 3G. I have in the past had a Blackberry and I thought it was great for emails. I did not use it for anything else as I use my laptop on the road and find it easier to use for what I do. I am now thinking that I could use the Iphone instead of my laptop- do you think it is realistic? I should note- the reason I am looking at the Iphone is the new feature “landscape keyboard”. Has anyone experience that new feature and is it better to type with.

    Thanks!

well it depends… the iphone is not for business people it more like a kids phone.. the bold is all for businees and more for adults in the working world. it all depends who u are. in my case, i bought an iphone.at the start i really loved it but after awhile it got boring and the keyboard sucks. i had the iphone for a year and just bought the bb and had for 4 months and its still amazing… it all depends on what u like !!

I personally have done a lot of research regarding both the Blackberry Bold and the iPhone. The blackberry defiantly has a better keyboard because it’s harder to mess up and the BB also has better e-mail. But think about it this way… how many free apps, games etc. can u get for your bb? how much can you cut, copy and paste on your bb?? try zooming in on a document or opening an attachment on your bb…the iPhone can cut, copy and paste, as well as zoom and open attachments with just a few flicks of your finger. I have tried a variety of smart phones and only the iPhone can do any of those. Sure it may have not been the best in the past but the new 3G S is defiantly the best phone out there. It’s impossible to get bored when you have it. There are thousands of free apps that are fun, can help you out or that are just plain cool. There is something for everyone. On any other phone, besides the games/apps that may possibly come with the phone, you can’t get any more free and the ones that you have to pay for are crap (this is the case with the bb). The iPhone has everything you can possibly need and it will keep you busy for as long as you need. The blackberry, like any other phone will get boring after five minutes, and after those 5 min. it turns into a boring old phone. So those of you who think of the blackberry as some form of a god,and are addicted to it should get some help. the iPhone is worth the money and is truly revolutionary. So you people who think the bb is the best, GO TELL IT TO THE JUDGE. the iPhone is the BEST!

There’s a bit of truth to what kris says. I have used a BB since the very first one debuted on Verizon and I’ve always been a BB fan. I bought the first iPhone when it came out and went back to a BB four months later. This all said, during that time I was interested in primarily only two things from my smartphone…telephone and email. Now I’ve retired and have some time to enjoy more than email and talking to people I’m giving up my BB for the iPhone 3GS. I use Gmail now and Google Apps and there is simply no better Gmail (mobile) experience than on an iPhone. RIM is supposedly coming out with a Gmail Enhanced Plugin for BB to overcome the Gmail IMAP shortcomings, but who knows when that will occur. Folks need to put this debate into perspective…if you want your smartphone for all the things an iPhone does…get it. If all you want is a good keyboard and MMS…get the BB. Oh, in all those years I became very proficient with the BB keyboard, but the iPhone keyboard is really not all that bad, and I actually now prefer it. Of course, I don’t have to respond to 200 emails a day now :-)

My friend got an iphone 3gs, he lives in the country I brought my phone there to compare wich is the bold, his phone was only getting the edge network with 2 bars and the bold had 3g with 3-5 bars, there is no comparison about reception, also we were on the same service provider. the bold has better speaker because there are 2(stereo) and the e-mail is far better(functionally/ optionally), his e-mail kept messing up and comming up with errors everyother send he could even send 1 to my accounts lol, I have 5 e-mail account from a pop3 server going to my bold and it’s as fast as instant messageing, also the bold has a case and it knows when it’s in the case which is great for buisness meetings so it will only vibrate when in the case, but u can set it for anything obviously. To me the iphone has cool apps for a consumer but for a buisness professional the blackberry wins hands down, it’s rediculous to say the bold will get boring quick theres lots of free apps that you could play with for years if thats really important for you. I don’t like apples marketing schemes that create fanboys that are ignorant to the actual technology behind these phones(and there overpriced computers for that matter) and just love apple, and talk about the imagineers at apple, it’s bs they steal things: like if u shake the iphone it will clear your text that was stolen directly from Unix, but then they market it as revolutionary and that they invented it, I hate that, stealing credit from free-ware/opensourced environments. Many things from apple are ripped from opensources. it’s not illegal but it’s being a pretty big dick. My PC is more powerfully/advanced technologically than any mac ever made and my bold is more functional than anymac ever made and it has a more powerful processor and ram than the iphone. All in all they are both cool phones but if ur a power user like me the bold crushes.

I am considering the iphone and wanted to find a site that does a fair comparison. I came across this site, which was somewhat helpful, but I think I’m going to stick with my bb for now. I have the Pearl and love it. I don’t know how different the wheel could be on the Pearl compared to the Bold, but mine works great. I took mine to the beach on my honeymoon and dropped it in the sand - it still works fine. Another person staying at our hotel dropped his Bold off their 5th story balcony and it survived. I can’t say anything about the iphone as I have never owned one, but the bb is very durable.

Hilarious…you have way too much time on your hands if your multitasking on your bb phone. I also just have to laugh at users that actually edit office documents on their tiny PDA, hilarious. Get a laptop you lazy execs.

BB users are like crack addicts… all it takes is just one time and their hooked. Most of the people using BB are people that never used any other PDA before so they rant and rav like BB is god and king of all earth. When in reality they have no experience using anything else.

As a techie that has the job of supporting every mobile device..I’ve seen, used and experienced all the PDA models on the market and the fact remains ..iphone is and will always be king.

I use my iphone to attend school(Univ of Phoenix) online when I’m on the road. Let’s see a BB do that. I can sync my google calendar with my iphone instantly. I like having internet access to my google calendar and appointments online without the need for a mail client like microsoft outlook.

I don’t take pictures with my cell phone I have a Sony 8.1 megapixel camera for that purpose. I don’t use MS exchange to sync email. I use gmail with the iphone. I don’t use the iphone for listening to mp3 music, I have an 80gig classic Ipod that serves that purpose very well. I download and convert all videos I need to play on my Ipod classic and have the myvue glasses to use with my Ipod classic.

It’s like apples and oranges..but truthfully and honestly, you can’t kill an iphone when you have millions of software developers that make apps for just about anything you can imagine.

Where is the BB developer community? It doesn’t exist. plenty of BB idiocy. Just give it up, you will never kill the iphone period.

So Iphone 3gs launched in UK last wk and my 62yr old dad went out a bought it on day 2 - That damn apple marketing again - but actually it was great because I was trying to get an informed decision. The problem was, that after typing on it for 10 min - I got used to the v. keyboard, I forwarded my gmail(apps) to yahoo and got push email to the iphone, (about 2 min) - and guess what, it worked.

so there seems ther are two big questions

    1) which is better for email
    2) which is the better technology

1: Is it possible that the landscape keyboard on the iphone is actually pretty fast to type on, because that’s behind the email question - anyone got any good comparison videos??

2: Bold hardware is better, but Iphone software is better - isn’t that the same with all macs? Isn’t the art in getting the software to do what you need it to do on less power?

Look, I think mac marketing is painful too, but at the end of the day all I want is the right phone, I don’t have allegiances, I am a business user and a consumer.

So… I still have my doubt’s about the iphone, hence bothering to write this, but its getting much more tempting, the more I actually give it a go…

OK, so my husband has a BB Bold is quitting his job and leaving it there. He LOVES his BB but since his next job will not be a corporate one and he will have to pay for his own phone we were considering getting iPhone’s on the ATT family plan. I only need it for “fun” and our teenager wants one for “fun” too. My husband will use it for e-mail but not a lot of documents. The BB seems much more expensive overall for all the data plans. I’ve heard so many good and bad things about both phones but since the BB is the only one I have actually had hands on experience with I would say I like it but it seems too bulky for me to carry around (and no I’m not getting a holster to go on my skirt). I do know the battery on the BB has froze up many times and has to be removed and reinstalled. Also, it has a chip in the side from being dropped but it’s like a timex, it keeps on ticking. Any comment on price of data plans. They are all confusing but since ATT has the monopoly they just give me a bunch of garbage. Oh and yes with the BB, he had EVERY app he wanted since the corporation paid for it.

I’ve owned an iphone. I then switched to the htc fuze. Simply because the battery life of my iphone died after its 2 years use, the screen had pinpoint puncture points from dropping it, and it would freeze all the time. I still had 7 gigs free of space but it would just freeze, the screen would go completely black and the only way to revive it was to hold the power button and the home button down. Also, texting on the iphone was a bit of a pain, so I wanted a full keyboard. I will say the htc fuze is the worst phone I’ve ever owned. I never again in my life will own a windows mobile phone. I’m an avid macbook user and yea, never again.

So my question is. The new iphone 3gs. Can it guarantee that I’m not going to have the same problems that I had with my first iphone? I understand that now we can take video, and even send pictures messages via SMS, but is there a flash for the camera? I’m really considering going to the blackberry bold (white model). After having my iphone, then switching to the fuze, before windows mobile became bogged down with my use (15k texts a month). I’m thinking a blackberry might be my phone of choice..

Opinions please..apps aren’t really a big deal to me, even though they make you feel like you have a new phone everytime you get a new one, not really a huge deal. Same as a super awesome email interface. I don’t send that many emails from my phone. One specific question. Does the blackberry have an app for facebook and myspace?

    Thanks all!!

I am a kid and I txt over 1,000 messages a day. The iphone is a pos and the touchscreen doesn’t last at all. I know 4 people with iphones and all of them hate it. You can’t download apps or buy music wirelessly if you don’t have 3G service. You can’t use internet properly on the iphone without 3G. BB Bold automatically puts it on EDGE Class 10. The best feature about all blackberrys is that the keys hold up forever and the phone itself is the most durable on the market. Why do all iphone people have covers? Because if it drops it is a much higher risk to break than a blackberry. I have almost 500,000 text messages sent through this phone and it is holding up great.

My wife has had her Iphone (3GS) for 2 months now. She also had a BB for the past 2 years (for personal use). As a personal user, my wife enjoyed her BB, but never got full use of its capabilities. Since switching to her Iphone she LOVES it. She’s not an Apple convert, but for personal use, the Iphone really makes life sweet for the typical person. I noticed immediately that her typing skill went downhill on the Iphone. But over the two months, that is improving (she’s still nowhere as fast as she used to be). I’m a LONG time BB user (for business). So I’m presumably biased toward BB. I’ve used her Iphone a lot. It IS great. The apps work well, it does everything an normal person does very well. For me, the virtual keyboard is the achiles heel. I type 40-50 wpm on a blackberry keyboard. Thats a hard adjustment to make. Even my wife still having a hard time adjusting (but she says she’d never go back). If you’re like me who’s been hammering out some masterpieces on a well-worn BB keyboard, the keyboard makes or breaks your choice. Nice “personal” features aside, if you cannot function as efficiently with your corporate e-mails, then it will become frustrating very quickly. But once away from the “core” corporate stuff, the iPhone wins hands down. This is one case where neither device plays very well in the other one’s sandbox. If its for personal use, you will not be disappointed with the iPhone (assuming you dont slap the thing around like a hockey puck). For core business, the blackberry does not disappoint with its core function to keep you connected to your e-mails and texts. If you browse more than you type, stick to the iPhone. If you type more than you browse, you need to try the iPhone’s keyboard in the store before you decide.

email (not good not bad just same)
stereo in earphones not in speakers (that’s important because I like to use it as mp3 player not as DJset for whole room :) )

I live in Seoul, Korea and due to some recent changes we are just now getting Blackberry and iPhone.

What I’d really like to see is a more convincing argument than “Business Use: Blackberry can be used with Outlook Express”. Is this really the extent of business use applicability?

After reading some of the user comments, information such as the BB Bold having more processing power (600Mhz vs. 400Mhz and 1Gb of Ram vs. 256Mb - according to the reply to post no. 11) would maybe be useful in a review of the two phones. The same reply stated that GPS was free on the BB bold - I’m assuming third party software, and hacks to release the phone - is that useful in a review? Perhaps.

The iPhone has the developer center (http://developer.apple.com/iphone/), which I think makes it interesting for those who would be interested in writing apps for it. Blackberry also has a developer zone (http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/), making it perhaps equally as interesting.

So, while I suppose that some of the security issues with the iPhone make the Blackberry stand out (among the two) for in house corporate use, the main differences I see from an end user’s perspective are: the feel of the keypad, size of screen, and available applications.

So, which do I get? Well, at the end of the day, though I don’t think this review has helped me much, I’m going to have to say that if I get the Blackberry, I’d feel like I got ‘just another phone’, which we have plenty of available in Korea… I’m going to go with an iPhone, perhaps one day I’ll regret that, but I can’t imagine a single reason why I ever would.

A coworker of mine perspires like a wet dishrag. He has a severe allergy condition and has to keep a roll of paper towels at his desk just to be able to use his PC. He goes through a whole roll every week. I feel bad for the guy but he is obviously not a candidate for a BB

AT&T coverage in suburban Houston, TX out in the somewhat upscale residential area of Cinco Ranch, especially the newest Cinco-West area is spotty at best, AT&T advertising to the contrary notwithstanding. I cannot recommend any AT&T device for someone living out there, though in town they work great.

It is obviously about personal preference so stop taking it so personally. There is so much crap on here; how can any one decide?? Stick to the facts people!

I need a new phone. Desperately. I am a Palm user. I love a full keyboard but love the touch screen. I thought the Palm Pre was going to be the perfect blend. But the reviews are not good.

So I am now stuck…deciding between the BB Bold or iPhone. I just want to know how someone like me will adjust to using one or the other!!

Strange because I had the blackberry curve for 1 year and just today I got the iPhone 3GS. I was with Bell Mobility (Canada) with both and the blackberry data plan was a lot more pricey than the iPhone’s plan. The blackberry scroll ball would always get shit in it or get stuck and not move, it was very irritating. Also I had to send in my blackberry because the USB charger just pushed in, I didn’t ram it, the screen also cracked very easily.. My blackberry went through hell. The internet was not fast, the keys stuck every once in awhile..and sometimes my blackberry would freeze or just shut down (very annoying..) and to top it all off I was covered under warranty but apparently if the charging slot is broken then they don’t care.. They are not very caring of their customers…
So on with the iPhone 3GS.. I got it today.. haven’t used it too much but it’s very quick. The virtual keyboard is actually REALLY easy to use. If you have big fingers than BB is a no-no. The iPhone is way more entertaining and blackberry gets old-very fast. I had it for a year and couldn’t wait to get rid of it.
I now love my white iPhone 16gb 3GS..

What are you people talking about? Iphone is amazing and yes the battery is not perfect but I am CONSTANTLY on my phone and my iphone always last the whole day until late at night when I am going to bed. Then yes it is almost dead but the fact is that I used it the whole day and can just plug it in every night. No problem at all.Everything is so much faster and easier on an iphone. Yes I did have a BB before too. Even the texting is super easy. Maybe its just cuz I am used to it. I say iphone totally %110 percent

Sorry, have to agree with those supporting th iphone. I went to a demo on the bb. It was so slow! I could not bedleive it i could go away and come bck in the time it took to load a page on the Internet. I have to say the iphone 3gs halves that time even on my network provider let alone wilessly. And I have to agree it ’s keyboard if fine. I often find with a QWERTY i press the wrong button, happens less on the iphon. And its screen is perfectly endurable. Personally I think those of you who think the bold is better need to stop living in th 19th century.

Alright, the new iphone is going to be coming out in June. Don’t listen to google because it is all lies, Apple keeps it a secret. Blackberry is strictly a business phone. People complain about the virtual keyboard, but i can type very fast on the keyboard after a couple of days. The iphone, even though it does not have multitasking, is a far superior phone with its operating system, memory, ease of use, web browsing superiority, ease of music, just plug into itunes, and apple genius bar, instead of shipping it out to get it fixed. IPHONE all the way

I used a pearl for about a year until the trackball fell out and I had to constantly put it back in nearly everytime I used it. 6 months ago I decided I had had enough and wen out and got an iPhone. Loved it from day one. Went to pay my phone bill a month ago and they (Rogers in Canada) gave me a loyalty discount on my plan and doubled my monthly data, which nearly caused me to die, but then I noticed the new BB Bold. No trackball.. Might have to switch back, but it’s gonna have to wait a bit seeing as me and the iPhone are still getting to know eachother, and this could be true love.. Damn my wandering eye.

I’ve been using BB Bold 9700, and had a 7 day trial with the new 3G iphone on Vodafone. I liked the iphone alot, but missed the Bold. The battery on BB is amazing, better to email, cut copy and paste is easier, screen is better, honestley I love the BB. After 3 days I sent the ihpone back. The iphone is probably better on the internet, but as an all round business phone the BB takes some beating. I use the BB wireless sync with outlook, and its linked to 3 computers. Its awsome for email. In all the BB is not a toy! its a business phone. The iphone is a great phone, but not for business. Thats just my opinion.

I’ve had both a bb and now the Iphone, i liked both and yes the iphone has some problems but honestly they are both good phones the bb works with Microsoft so you have MSN and other things, i found my bb to be super slow and had to take my battery out to reset the phone when my iphone slows down i just plug it into my Macbook and it works fine, also i noticed above someone said that become you have itunes you have to pay for music? thats most likely a personal choice i use a downloading software on my macbook haven’t paid for over 9000 songs since i’ve had my iphone or bb for that matter.. i use my Iphone to send emails and texts i’ve gotten so use to the keyboard that i can type vertical or horizontal as well.. its like any phone you get use to it and there are things you wish you could change, am i going to go and spend like 600 bucks to get a bb again, not likely i’ll wait another year and decide then

as for the speakers on the bb and iphone i like my iphone ones sounds like headphones where as my bb sounded HORRIBLE, ps Iphone 3Gs cut copy paste, mms video and picture with text… its a good lil phone and lighter and easier to fit in my pocket and not look like i’m happy to see everyone!

The article doesn’t go in depth about games, apps, web browser, and multimedia capabilities, which are probably the biggest advantages the iPhone has over any phones on the market today. Take all these into consideration and the iPhone is hands down definitely the most well-rounded and best in the market today. Most hard-core BB fans and business users might play down this point b/c they probably don’t appreciate these features anyway. But I think that many of you will agree that the evolution of Apple’s product software is constantly improving so there’s many good improvement still to come in the future, for example even the old iPhone Classic or the original aluminium Macbook Pro can still use the latest OS updates. Apple just do that for their customers and that’s great.

They are both fantastic. I have 2 lines and my business phone is my BB Bold that way I can answer e-mails and share photos for free with fellow BB colleagues. When I travel I take the BB with me as well as roaming charges are so expensive but BB messenger is free.

On week ends and vacations I switch off my BB and take my iphone that way only my friends and loved ones can call or SMS me. When waiting in the doctors office the applications are fun. I watch downloaded programs, listen to music and surf the net on my Iphone.

So neither one is better than the other. It just depends what will suit your needs and lifestyle.

Hi, I have been in business for 10 years and have been using apple laptops, desktops and iPhones (now) for that entire period.

I have just acquired a modern Blackberry and I am telling you that as a smart-phone it is superior to the iphone in every practical way.

If you are an unemployed teenager though, the iphone may be a better choice. It will allow you to waste thousands of hours downloading stupid ‘apps’ to play with, it will while away your time forcing you to go through ITUNES for every computer/smart-phone sync, and it will prevent you from effectively planning appointments and writing serious memos with its poor diary and document functions.

It will also hypnotize you with its unnecessarily large screen which will use up your full battery in less than one day of use, whilst being unable to cope with web-browsing or YOUTUBE footage due to the screen size.

I would seriously question the future of any business which bought iPhones over Blackberries for its staff.

I would also question anyone who attempted to create video on a non-apple PC. Its a question of horses for courses.

Anyone who thinks the iPhone is intuitive is insulting the intelligence of the consumer. How dare APPLE force me to sync a photo I take with MY IPHONE via IPHOTO on a PC before I can share it or distribute it in any way! I took that photo! I paid $500 for that iPhone! To be unable to bluetooth or MMS that photo to people who need it is an outrage.

BTW I am not trying to share pics of my cat or my flower arrangements here - I am trying to distribute very important shots of technical equipment to my staff. But the iPhone wouldn’t let me.

I wouldn’t even say that the iPhone is better for some people - my comment about lazy teenagers was facetious. Parents- I would get your kids a Blackberry instead, it will focus them on their own productivity instead of turning them into a fat spectator.

If I sound bitter - then I am. This is because I was one of the VERY FIRST iPhone buyers in the UK. In order to have one I had to pay $500 for the phone and sign up for an 18 month contract with a phone provider I did not want. The first version of the iPhone was woeful - but I had to put up with it.

Then when I realised that my early iPhone was in fact not powerful enough to work with - I had to buy a 3G phone. This 3G has had incessant technical problems with phone calls and I haven’t been able to get it fixed or changed.

BLACKBERRY know very well that they cannot afford to bring out sub-standard unreliable products like APPLE. BLACKBERRY would go out of business if its products were not immediately fit for purpose.

I feel I have wasted years with iPhones, and whilst they have some good points, I regret ever having bought one and wish I had got Blackberries instead. The Blackberry I know have was FREE with a contract and is already helping me be more effective.

The truth is this - the iPhone is not even a smartphone - it is something else. It is an ornament, a toy, a fashion accessory. It makes it hard to do business and easy to waste time with silly apps, music downloads etc.

But what it is - more than anything - is a device to drive the user into ITUNES where the user is insidiously persuaded /forced to become an ITUNES customer, spend money on frivolities and give even more money to the APPLE corporation.

Here is a FACT…..if you are a highly successful person in the corporate world, then putting your Blackberry on the table in a very important business meeting shows you are a professional person. If you were to put an iPhone on the same table, you look like a geek who cannot be taken seriously. This is a FACT.

I’m an iPhone 3GS 32GB owner and I’m thinking of getting the BlackBerry Bold 9700 as well. I hardly use any of the apps I downloaded and only use it for email. So I’m going to use the BB as my work phone, and my iPhone for browsing/fun. I kinda think it’s an image thing as well, as you look more sophisticated with a BlackBerry, and everyone has an iPhone nowadays. So I thnk the coolness factor of the iPhone has been eroded. That said, I was in a bar with a friend who has the Bold 9000 and we wanted to look something up on the internet, and her 3G speed on the Bold was waaaaaay slow that I had to get my iPhone out and connected to the site much quicker. So I think I’ll miss the better browsing experience with the iPhone.

I owned a bb pearl for about a year until the screen gave out completely as a result of dropping it, completely my fault. I switched to iphone and stayed under the same network and within two weeks i was going to exchange it. i didnt get service in several of the areas that i did with my bb which is surprising because the iphone (32 G) is double the price of the pearl. I got a replacement iphone and it is not much better. The real benefits of the iphone come from the access to apps and itunes, as it is also an ipod touch, essentially. Thats the major advantage that it has over bb. For the price, its probably not worth it as i still miss my pearl, although it was sometimes leggy and slow. If you like having the ipod access in your phone, then the iphone is a good choice, but overall i’d rather have any bb over the iphone.

I own both and let me tell you we are talking about two very different machines. Blackberry, I have a Bold 9700…absolutely fantastic phone and great for texting and any serious work. I use the Iphone for entertainment. It isn’t a serious work machine at all but it sure has great games. For those of you who are talking about speed, it is 90% the carrier not the phone. The BBerry is way better in my eyes. If I had to chose only one it would be the BB.

I’m surprised that there hasn’t been much talk of the BB messenger. Seriously, if the iphone is partly designed for teenagers and students then why on earth does it not have a decent instant messenger? I recently got the iphone just to realize that everybody I know (of which most are abroad) now has a BB and is basically sending free international texts and I’m stuck with a million useless apps that don’t even come near to that service.
As far as e-mails are concerned, the iphone doesn’t even offer real-time e-mail downloads. One can only make the iphone fetch e-mails every 15 minutes.. what’s the point of that?
And what’s up with the stupid 3G.. one time I had to do something online and the battery gauge went from 50% to 15% in about 30 minutes. I think that that’s ridiculous.
Last but not least, the fact that you can only run one app at a time is the extremely annoying as well and I really don’t feel like waiting until they release that update.
So for those thinking about buying either a bb or the iphone i have this to say.. If you want a functional phone to send emails and communicate.. get a bb. If you just want a phone that looks nice and is fun to play with .. get the bb and buy an ipod touch or something.
