A lot of people are saying that the Nokia N96 is dominant over the iPhone 3G in almost every area. In the same way a lot of people love the iPhone and wouldn’t think of switching to another. Is the Nokia N96 really that much better than the iPhone?
Looking at the Nokia N96, it does look better than the iPhone, with a few little exceptions. While the iPhone has a full virtual keyboard, the N96 still has that basic phone keyboard where each key is 3 different letters along with a number. If you purchase the N96 you probably will not be doing a lot of typing, unless of course you purchase the foldable, wirless keyboard which will run you about $150. If you have that, then the N96 is probably better in this area.
It seems like the Nokia N96 could also use a more powerful battery, as it uses a 950mAh battery. Depending upon the service in your area, the talk time may be at least a couple of hours less on the N96. The N96 has a lot of great features that can drain the battery, but at least you won’t have to send it out to Apple for battery replacement.
The screen of the Nokia N96 looks good, however, it’s only 320×240 pixels so it may not be quite as sharp as the iPhone, and it is a little smaller and supposedly shows you 16 million colors. What is also nice about the N96 is the leg in the back which you can use to prop up the device and watch movies.
The Nokia N96 easily has the better camera, a 5 megapixel compared to the 2 megapixel camera of the iPhone. The camera of the N96 has dual-LED flash, and will record video, while the camera on the iPhone will not record video. The N96 also has a smaller camera on the front side which can be used to take self pictures.
You can get an iPhone with either 8GB, or 16GB, while you can get the Nokia N96 in 16GB, and you have the option of extending that to 24GB. So you can get either phone in 16BG, but the N96 has the option for most capacity.

Download speeds appear very close with these two. The iPhone may have a slight edge in maximum speeds, but it would all depend on the service and area. It also may be likely that you will not get 3G coverage for the N96 if in the U.S. which means the iPhone would be faster.
You will pay $299 for the 16GB iPhone, and you can probably expect to pay about $800 for the Nokia N96. It’s a big price to pay, but the N96 is a total multimedia device, and can do it all for you. Depending upon what you want, the iPhone may be the better value for the price tag.
The Nokia N96 is available for preorder tomorrow.
