Palm Pre - Is It Better Than BlackBerry?

The Palm Pre, which was released earlier this year, is hoping to crush the competition of argueably the most dominant device, that of the BlackBerry.  Generally, Palm’s devices have been unable to compete with the likes of BlackBerry and Apple over the years, however, the Palm Pre looks to make things more interesting than ever.

The main reason why BlackBerrys are so successful is two way communication.  Email, calendering, and messaging via BlackBerrys have been second to none.  The reason why the Palm Pre may give BlackBerry some tough competition is improved communication ability thanks to the webOS and cloud messaging integration.  In fact, the way that the Pre handles contacts may very well be the future of all contact management.

Unlike other devices, the Pre will pull all of your contact data from the services you use online (Google, Facebook, Exchange).  The service oriented contact management system of the Pre makes it easier than ever to download contacts data, whereas it would be more of a hassle to access the data via traditional means that other devices use.

With webOS, cloud messaging, and the slide out QWERTY, your friends or contacts will be able to contact you at any time and may not even be able to tell if you are online via your computer or your Palm Pre.  It’s easy to ignore messages when they pop up at the bottom of the screen, giving you the feeling of being constantly connected, but not constantly interrupted.

If you communicate mostly with those in your Gmail, Twitter, and Facebook accounts, or other email, SMS, and IM then the Palm Pre will be as good a messaging device as a BlackBerry is for your business use.

Palm’s former Apple Executive along with some other former members have created a communication device that may be able to do what the iPhone has been unable to do to this point.
