Samsung Instinct - How do I Make the Backlight Stay on Longer?

If your backlight is not staying lit long enough for you, there is a simple way to configure that, which will give you more time.
Touch the main Menu tab from the home screen.
Then touch Settings.
Then touch Displays.
Then touch Backlight.
You will then be shown five different options in which to choose from.
Touch one of the five options, then hold the Home functions key to return to the home screen.
Your backlighting choice should now be enabled, but remember, if the backlight remains on for longer periods of time the battery will drain faster.
